EPIC MONDAY: MICHAEL HIRST & MARTIN SCORSESE PREPARING 'CAESARS' EPIC TV SERIES ON YOUNG ROMAN RULERS! ITV & MAMMOTH SCREEN MAKING ASIA SET WW2 SERIES 'THE SINGAPORE GRIP'!

  'THE CAESARS' EPIC SERIES
FROM TUDORS' MICHAEL HIRST AND MARTIN SCORSESE?
The series apparently already has the pilot written
We're all epic today, people, starting with the info coming from 'The Guardian' that Tudors, Elizabeth and Vikings creator Michael Hirst is preparing THE CAESARS series with Martin Scorsese which will cover the lives of some of Rome's most famous rulers. The series, expected to start shooting its first season next year in Italy, will tell the story of the early rulers of ancient Rome, beginning with the rise to power of Julius Caesar! Unlike other projects which used to depict him in his mature age, this series would depict him when he was young, ambitious and full of vitality. As you probably remember, Julius Caesar was indeed already shown as a very ambitious young soldier, filled with both political and sexual energy, in super popular Spartacus series.

  'THE SINGAPORE GRIP'
ITV & MAMMOTH SCREEN PREPARING ASIAN WW2 DRAMA
The book is a part of the Empire trilogy
Speaking of period set dramas, ITV is teaming up with Poldark's and Victoria's Mammoth Screen to turn J.G. Farrell's WW2 novel THE SINGAPORE GRIP into a six episode series. The story is based around a British family living in Singapore at the time of the Japanese invasion. As 'Deadline' reports, it follows rubber merchant Walter Blackett, his wife Sylvia, ruthless daughter Joan and spoilt son Monty, who live a life of luxury, seemingly untouched by the troubles in Europe. However, the story takes a turn when the son of his business partner Mr Webb becomes involved with his daughter Joan before falling under the spell of Vera Chiang, a mysterious Chinese refugee. Christopher Hampton (Atonement, The Quiet American), who won an Oscar for Dangerous Liaisons, is penning the script.

  1. Scorsese and the Caesars . . . could be interesting, very interesting indeed.

  2. Martin Scorsese is hit or miss with me, so we'll see what he brings to the table here. Hopefully he stays away from Leo DiCaprio. He does like to shove him in damn near every film he works on.

    1. Oh, my, Leo would just ruin it, I don't watch anything with him, he is not a bad actor but for some reason he is never believable to me

    2. I certainly don't love him. He seems to have an air of arrogance about him that is just super unappealing to me.

    3. that is the illness that plagues many a young actor in Hollywood, from that horrid nasty Wahlberg to Affleck brothers, Francos and Damon. They have zero charm of Classic Hollywood.

  4. I am not sure about the Caesar one but I just read the summary of The Singapore Grip...that sounds intriguing. But I wonder if we will get that here...

    1. Probably not, but then again, it is ITV so there is a chance PBS airs it over in USA especially since it is from Mammoth Screen.

  5. Do I need to point out that being filled with both political and sexual energy is a dangerous combo?
